Experiential Retail Adjusts for a Post-COVID Comeback [SHOPPING CENTER BUSINESS]
/Howard Samuels was interviewed along with other retail real estate experts by Shopping Center Business for its February 2021 article entitled “Experiential Retail Adjusts for a Post-COVID Comeback.”
Samuels believes that shopping centers will benefit from retailers that offer a multi-experience, diversified entertainment approach. Samuels advises “rather than focus on owner’s returns or rents needed for their spaces, they need to understand the concepts’ business models and how they can successfully partner with each operator”. He says “owners need to forget about sales per square foot and think about experiences per square foot.” Samuels believes that “having successful entertainment concepts will separate the weak from the chaff and differentiate successful and profitable centers from the outdated properties that are trying to hand onto old, traditional principles.”
